This week we have a forecast that starts subtly, but quickly grows into something quite broad, potent, and meaningful. In a repeat of our last reading, we have a pair of major arcana cards drawing our attention to the middle and the end of the week. I’m glad, however, that we have a brief interlude before this intensity in our first card, the Six of Cups.
Last week we experienced the power of our dedication to healing ourselves; The Star card led this charge and quickly became enshrined in our actions via Strength. We’re given a quiet beginning of the week (at least relatively speaking) to work with the insights we drummed up through this period of care and exertion.
In the Six of Cups we see a moment of connection. This is a time when our social world is opening up, and we may have identified a person or several people who belong thoroughly and unequivocally in our inner sanctum: people we can hold close to our hearts, trust with sensitive matters, and who also share a similar appreciation and sense of values when it comes to beauty, connection, reciprocity, and joy.
Spending time with people we care about in the beginning of the week will soften the intensity that’s carried over from last week while preparing us for this new and potent pair of major Arcana cards. The space and environments we occupy will also shape a lot of this week. Seek out places and social scenes that feel safe and nurturing. There’s all sorts of ways that we can cross pollinate our feelings and ideas in low stakes ways that nonetheless have a big impact.
I’m also seeing this card as a secret gateway to something grander, so whatever happens in the beginning of the week - and it doesn’t have to be epic or carry even a discernible significance or meaning - pay attention and let it unfold. It’s likely that something is occurring under the surface, but now is not the time to understand it or even name it.
The subtlety quickly dissipates when we encounter The Lovers midweek. This is a card that appears when we have a very passionate realization or the arrival of a sense of energy and direction. Quite simply put, it’s all about desire, and in this case, desire is anything but subtle. So if things feel a little meandering or hazy in the beginning of the week know that that will quickly burn off with the intensity of The Lovers card - just look at that sun and that impressive angel presiding over these two figures! You can imagine that this reveal will be just as intense and glorious, and maybe even a little confrontational.
What desires have you been slowly awakening to? Maybe experimenting with and even questioning, but that now feel more and more authentic and important? Again, look to your community via the Six of Cups for insight (and cheerleading) - what do those closest to you notice about your growth?
We have an interesting second member of our major arcana pair, Justice. I see a lot of compatibility in these cards. We have a outpouring of energy, determination, and yearning that is driving our actions, and it is entirely possible that our experience with The Lovers is also driving our actions towards a deeper and even more obviously enacted sense of justice.
When I look at these cards, I see a very complex and heartening combination of energies: pure, embodied, and grounded tenderness in the Six of Cups; elemental and powerful desire in The Lovers; and clearly articulated and enacted values in Justice. If these cards are read as a strict sequence, we can see that the gentleness of the Six of Cups is giving birth to the powerful and even severe clarity of Justice. This is a very intriguing and impactful path. You’ll also notice that justice is carrying a sword and it does seem that in recent readings we’ve been working through issues of discernment and decisiveness - maybe even holding some big decisions close to our hearts. If that’s the case for you this week, now may be a very good time to let that sword fall - to make the decision, draw the line in the sand, commit, or let go of something that is not upholding your values anymore.
Although these cards are big and intense, they don’t seem to be coming from an unstable place, so if we’re able to care for ourselves this week, which is highly likely given our recent experiences with The Star and Strength, then this is a time when we can really trust that our outburst of conviction and decisiveness is not only organic and natural to us, but what the moment is demanding. I’m drawn to how the robes of the angel in The Lovers transforms into the backdrop of the Justice card, as if we’re using the sacredness of our passion and desire as an animating force or a way to celebrate and honor higher values. Think about how what you’ve been naturally drawn to over the past year or so (because the major Arcana cards represent longer time frames) has transformed your thinking or shaped your values in ways that now feel clarifying, galvanizing, and essential.
There’s a lot happening this week, but most of it is in this instinctive, somewhat conceptual realm, so while we may be making some big decisions, the details of implementation are not happening quite yet. If you’re feeling a sense of frustration, remember that oftentimes these big moments of clarification and awareness are accomplishments in of themselves and our task is to really sit in this moment as it unfolds rather than placing burdens of expectation or busyness on top of them. Returning to the Six of Cups will be a really helpful way to curtail this instinct, and getting a second opinions or even just beautiful pep talk can help ground the kinetic and intense energy of The Lovers and Justice until we’re able to integrate them and act from them in future weeks.
Embrace:
Tender moments with those close to you
Listening, supporting, sharing joy
Daring to open up and share some of your plans, interests, dreams, and desires with trusted people
Curiosity towards what you want. What is lighting you up like The Lovers? What makes your world feel expansive, exciting, and new?
Making connections between liberation and joy, expression and power - how can The Lovers influence or feed Justice and vice versa?
Letting your heart influence your values and standing up for what’s right and just for all, not just some
Avoid:
Broadcasting your plans and desires too widely - share with your Six of Cups community and explore these areas yourself before “going public”
Turning away from, repressing, or discounting your desires by default. Listen to what’s been lighting you up and take it seriously
Making solid and/or demanding plans or declarations. The time to do this is just around the corner
Over-investing in rigid structures
Filling your schedule - big energy takes big bandwidth
